Borisz Papp

Borisz Papp has been engaged in art since elementary school. In high school, he attended the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, where he learned porcelain painting. Later, he began studying industrial design at the Design Campus in Győr, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree this year, and he plans to continue my master’s studies there. Throughout university, he was always interested in technologies and the manufacturing processes of objects. He has a particular interest in creating unique items, and parametrization is currently one of the most fascinating topics for him. This project evolved from his thesis work, where he also focused on these technologies and this way of thinking. He hopes that in the long run, Waflum will become a brand characterized by quality and uniqueness.

About the object

The artist chose laser cutting to manufacture the lamp, as this technology allows him to work with low material loss. Since it works with vector files, he has created an algorithm that results in a pattern in the form of vectors. This script first generates a solid geometric shape and then slices it into sheets that can be used to reconstruct the original shape. This shape can then be varied in a matter of moments, creating new and new variations, with the result that each lamp produced is different from the last.
