About the objects
R71 floor lamp
During the collaboration between MOME and the Museum of Applied Arts’ Contemporary Design department, the task was to design a new contemporary design object inspired by the work of Sándor Borz Kováts. As part of the design course, students familiarized themselves with Kováts’ work, responding to and reflecting on his creations. The R71 floor lamp was designed to complement Sándor Borz Kováts’ tubular frame chair and table. The floor lamp is made of steel tubing, bent using an R71 uniform radius. The tubular frame can be disassembled into four parts with detachable joints, following and applying Kováts’ flatpack principle. The shelf is easily accessible and usable from a comfortable seated position, embodying the R71 radius in its rounded edges. The light fixture follows the form of the shelf, creating a unified and balanced design, with illumination provided by an LED panel.
The lamp is named R71, referencing the uniform R71 radius. Overall, the design and detailing of the lamp aim to evoke Sándor Borz Kováts’ creations while incorporating contemporary elements.
TORITO pouf
During the MOME DESIGN_FLOATING OR PSYCHEDELIC POUF course, the assignment was to design and create a pouf inspired by the themes of floating and psychedelia. The TORITO pouf was conceived as a response to these concepts.
The TORITO pouf integrates the concepts of floating and rocking, moving not just back and forth in the traditional sense, but also side to side and up and down when sat upon. This creates a continuous uncertain balance, which can be managed through constant presence and adjustments. This coordination engages the entire body, requiring a straight posture like that maintained by balance balls, which ensures a straight spine and correct posture. The sure and conscious use of the TORITO puff can also provide a soothing rocking motion, resulting in safe relaxation. Its playful nature allows the wooden part to be repositioned, transforming it into a small table. Users are free to explore various configurations to see what they can create. The pouf’s name, TORITO, is derived from its resemblance to a cute little calf.
