NORNA
NORNA creates lasting furniture with a story. Every design starts with research and studying the topic along the lines of the designers’ current interests. The resulting design is not just an object but a story manifested in furniture. The norns are the goddesses of the past, present and future in Norse mythology who weave the threads of fate, so the third place is always reserved for a new collaborative partner, manufacturers, designers or creative experts. NORNA – contemporary furniture for future generations, inspired by the past.
About the designers
Alexandra Takács completed her bachelor’s degree in Industrial Product and Design Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), while Petra Pinezits earned her BA in Product Design at the University of Wesern Hungary. They met during their master’s studies at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), where both chose to specialize in furniture design. During their master’s program, they became friends and increasingly involved in each other’s design processes, yet even independently, they created objects that worked well together. At that time, the idea of a joint project began to take shape, although they weren’t sure what form their collaboration would take. After university, they worked together as set designers for commercials and films for two years. It was during this time they realized how well they complemented each other in their work. In 2022, they officially founded their joint brand, NORNA, and promptly applied for the HFDA Start mentorship program, which lasted nearly a year. As emerging designers, they found the workshops and lectures extremely beneficial, especially in terms of brand building. Since then, they have participated in several prestigious exhibitions, such as Budapest S/ALON, 360 Design Budapest, and Milano Alcova, and have garnered significant recognition. Collaboration with other young designers is important to them, which is how they had the opportunity to showcase their work alongside Vyf at the Museum of Fine Arts. They are also proud of their collaboration with the underground brand Stotz, which resulted in the creation of their new collection.
About the objects
LINEA collection : LINEA bar stool and LINEA easychair
LINEA is a collaboration between a fresh domestic underground clothing brand and a contemporary furniture brand, resulting in a collaborative work of art. The main inspiration was the relationship between the city and the countryside. The seating surface of the Linea furniture is made from beautiful textile remnants of the Stotz clothing brand, and the patchwork technique is an excellent opportunity to utilize material remains, which is a playful combination of forms that complement each other and is thus reborn in a new quality. This way of thinking is beautifully echoed in the Linea furniture, where the forms playfully embrace each other, they do not stand on their own, but hold each other and thus form a frame. When determining the shape, they sought to create a seating surface where you can comfortably relax, thus creating the easychair with a lower seat height and a wider surface, which reflects the relaxing energy of the countryside. On the other hand, the urban pulsation is represented by the bar stool.
