About the object
Bolygó lamp
The floor lamp ‘bolygó’ [i.e. planet and/or in the same time rambler] is a reinterpretation of the work of Sándor ‘Borz’ Kováts, a less known designer from the early days of Hungarian industrial design, as part of a collaboration between Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and the Hungarian Museum of Applied Arts.
The primary and most important inspiration for the planetary lamp is the planetary wheel created by Borz Kováts. Its functional principle is a feat of engineering that incorporates the aesthetics of geometric shapes while at the same time using a solution that is quite innovative for its time, to facilitate the movement of furniture.
The geometric and industrial style of the pipes was an inspiration for the overall design, which was combined with the space-forming power of the light softening by the diffuser.
