Herczeg Anikó

Aniko Herczeg is a member of the local Fine Art Association in Sopron since 1997 ( and having regular exhibitions from this date) also at present serving as the veep of the assiciation . Her skill in drawing – inherited from her great-grandfather Vince Hende– at first was shaped by renowned painters of the town in private tuition, then later she earned qualifications in photography, graphic design and interior decor and furnishing.  She was always drawn to colorful objects and patterns, and been greatly interested in all sorts of creative project and artistic ways. At an early age she made puppets and toys, designed and sewed dresses for herself, experimented with ceramics and most importantly painted and drew, building up the unique art style and approach she has now.  Initially she painted onto chipboard with distemper, then later she moved onto an acryl-linen combination, allowing her more creative freedom in her paintings. The canvas she use does not remain flat, it is molded into swirling shapes and wavelike forms, introducing even more dinamic into her art, washing away the boundaries between 2D and 3D art, painting and sculptures.

The exhibition concept is arranged around three key words: signal, light and space. Each of them are urging the viewers to observe and form questions about their ususal life and surroundings, and also to draw conclusion from the the artistic point of view presented in the creations.

About the object

Willow

Due to the technique of moulding the base, it is not the blank canvas slowly filling up with colours, rather the act of shaping it depicts her thoughts. The circle symbolises constant circulation, the alpha and omega of infinity. The wind-blown branches of the weeping willow standing on the shoreline are repeating the ripples of water in a vertical game. Cold, flat shades, cooling thoughts, the early evening’s calm is broken by only swaying reeds.
