Henibara Design

Henriett Barabás graduated in 2024 from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design with a degree in industrial and product design. Prior to her studies, she worked as a model for over a decade, during which she traveled to many parts of the world before deciding to follow her passion and become a designer. The years spent in the fashion industry and the various cultures and artistic approaches she encountered during her travels provided a strong foundation that she builds upon in the field of design.

Initially, she focused on ceramics. She designed unique tableware for restaurants such as Enso and Franziska. Additionally, she has been collaborating with The Sentimentalist jewelry brand for three years now, creating various objects and sculptures. During her school years, she experimented with many different materials and managed to produce some of her projects. Her IKO fountain was created for the entrance of the Középpont Yoga Studio, and her two steel chairs (LOOP, KARTON) have been exhibited on several occasions.

This year, she participated in the Design Exchange event organized by the W Hotel Budapest, where she had the opportunity to talk about her profession and experiences in a roundtable discussion with renowned artist like Márton Nemes, Dávid Ajkai and Fanni Bodrogi.

About the products

KARTON chair (2023)
The theme of the design was „monolith.” Designing a piece of furniture that consists of a single piece, with its structure either hidden or nonexistent. Starting from the idea of a hidden structure, the designer began to think about objects whose shapes are defined by being filled with something, meaning their stability and structure come from the objects inside them. For example, a cardboard box can only be sat on if it is full; otherwise, it would collapse. The concept of the box seemed exciting to pursue further, and by choosing the right materials, the designer aimed to replace the internal structure.

LOOP chair (2023)
Henrietta Barabás wanted to design an object where the tube plays an important aesthetic role, so she built the concept around the technology of tube bending. The initial idea was a step stool, but as she refined the proportions, she felt that a taller, more graceful object would suit this form better; so it led her to this chair. She aimed to create a clean, simple, yet clever form that utilizes the material’s properties and incorporates design solutions that make it more refined and airy.
