Bernadett Garai

Bernadett Garai is a second-year design student at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, aiming to pursue a career in furniture design. Growing up in poverty, she couldn’t choose the objects around her, which made her deeply aware of how our environment affects our quality of life. This background continues to motivate her in her work: her goal is to create objects that provide people with the best possible conditions. Her design approach combines social sensitivity with a strong interest in manufacturing technologies.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITED OBJECTS

ZIP (2024)

The ZIP lounge bed was created as part of a university project inspired by the work of Sándor Borz Kováts. Rethinking classic tubular furniture, the piece is designed for small living spaces and combines the functions of a chair, bed, and recliner. Its telescopic structure and modular design offer hygienic, versatile, and sustainable use. The stainless steel frame, flat-pack construction, and vacuum-packed cushions support long-term durability and efficient transport.

MUTI (2024)

MUTI is a multifunctional piece of furniture that can be used as a nightstand, shelf, stool, or side table. It’s ideal for people who move frequently, as it easily adapts to different spaces. When combined, multiple units form a stable, modular system. The “groove” serves not only as a visual motif but also as a structural element that connects the pieces. The object reflects a conscious approach to shaping the home environment and responds to the needs of changing living situations.
