The products Máté Horváth designs are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they also tell a story that leaves a lasting impression and enriches our lives. His inspiration comes from nature and traditional techniques, which he combines with simplicity, craftsmanship, and high-quality materials. He believes that close collaboration is necessary at every stage of the design process to create a design that truly meets our needs and tells our story.
About the designer
When asked what his occupation is, he usually answers – designer. After this, he will immediately add that he mainly deals with furniture design. The reaction received is always positive, it is a lovely job. He also does it for love. The love of wood goes back a long time, he and his grandfathers worked a lot with this material, and many memories are attached to them. To this day, he admires the professionals who make useful objects from such a huge plant in the carpentry workshop. During his early studies, he got to know János Vásárhelyi, a famous Hungarian furniture designer, who showed him the beauty of seating furniture.
He launched his brand in 2018 under the name Forms Design. Over the years, he has had many successes, including the Big SEE Design Award, the Red Dot Award, and many mass-produced products.
If he had to define the key to success, perhaps the answer would be complex design. After all the initial conceptualisation and form-finding, he doesn’t neglect the structural side of the product. It is important to him that his design is aesthetically pleasing, but at the same time can be produced economically, and above all are sellable. This implies a close relationship between the designer and the manufacturer.
About the products
SHAPE baby furniture series
The concept was inspired by the bendability of sheets of paper. Keeping the manufacturability in mind, the creators decided to design flat curved platforms. They also allow for assemblability and appear as iconic shapes in each piece of furniture.
The legs are also designed using these curved elements. The resulting shape is distinctive and makes the furniture recognisable.
These soft and simple forms give the furniture a harmonious look that will fit perfectly into almost any style of room.
The Shape furniture seried has won the Red Dot Award in the category of Design Concept 2024.
