Econor Design

Nóra Dávid, industrial product and design engineer is the designer and founder of Econor Design. She grew up at the foot of the Mátra Mountains, where her love and respect for nature began. She studied at the Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering at the University of Óbuda, specializing in product design, interior and textile design. The six months spent on Erasmus at the Italian ISIA Faenza – Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche di Ceramica ceramics university have had a great influence on her design approach and her ‘out of the box’ aspirations. The creation of the brand is a kind of eco-conscious creative fulfilment, combining love of nature, design and social needs. She has envisioned a life goal  where work is her passion and she can fully identify with it, thus the idea of Econor was launched in 2020.

About the objects

Babák side tables

Wooden small tables are a key element of the brand’s identity. The proportions and design of Econor’s first product in 2020, the characterful side table, have been rethought for 2024. We wanted to create a more organic, softer shape, responding to international market trends. The raw material is recycled shipping container pallet blocked and then hand turned. Finished with a natural orange honey oil, also by hand, the fingerprints of the maker can be seen in the wabi sabi imperfect imperfection principle. The designers love reclaimed wood, it has a history, it has travelled the world, it is knocked about, holed, imperfect in places, yet it can be the jewel of an interior with a little care.

The designers experimented with different shapes, weights and colours in the design, and the collection includes 5 tables of the same height and width, all different in shape and colour.

Four of the tables are topped with recycled composite stone slabs from leftover production pieces from a stone processing company. The designers wanted to extend the life of the tables with the durable material, elevating the furniture into high quality spaces.

Wave benches

The production of the outdoor furniture prototype started in 2021, starting with testing the coatings to see how resistant they are to rain, UV and heat, as the recycled foam interior needs to be protected from the sun. The development of the internal PUR foam recycling technology has been ongoing for more than 3 years at one of the partner companies, with a special focus on preparing it for usage in the furniture industry. After a sufficient number of failures, it was outlined which materials would be worthwhile to take the development further, which is still ongoing, always learning something new about the interaction of different raw materials.

The Wave pad shape experiments started in April 2023, prototypes were made in several widths and depths until we found the most ergonomic and harmonious shape. They wanted to create an organic, well-organized piece of furniture. At first, they only thought about an outdoor version with a hard coating. In May 2024, they were approached by Gaálhab Ltd. with a collaboration idea, and that’s how the upholstered Wave bench was created, expanding the one-off form furniture range. They tried several different sponge hardnesses and fabrics to achieve the desired angular shape. The interior of the furniture is 100% recycled closed cell rigid polyurethane foam, topped with 5 cm high quality sponge and upholstered with recycled PES fabric, with a wear resistance of 100,000+ Martindale, making it suitable for public use.

They plan to produce additional accessories and connecting elements for the outdoor-indoor Wave bench family in the future, which are mainly needed to extend the range of functions of lounge spaces (charging unit, connecting element, corner element, table, umbrella, flower box).
