Baranyay Szabolcs

Szabolcs Baranyay accidentally got involved in the world of glass, but he has grown to love it more and more since then. He was a student at the Secondary School of Visual Arts and Design from 2016 to 2021, specializing in glass. During this time, he gained a solid foundation in working with glass, primarily focusing on cold techniques. He completed his fifth professional year, won a ÚNKP scholarship for his final project, and passed his professional exam. After this, he applied to and was accepted by the Glass Department of the Object Design Faculty at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. During his three years there, he mastered hot glass forming techniques, participated in numerous exhibitions, developed good professional relationships, and graduated successfully in 2024. He volunteers at the only glass art creative camp in Hungary, located in Bárdudvarnok, and is a member of the Glass’Hart Association. His works are featured in exhibitions and collections of the Goszthony Mária Foundation.

About the objects

Natural Forces III. V. VI.

Szabolcs Baranyay in his work, aimed to showcase the natural forces acting on hot glass: gravity, the movement of fluids, surface tension, and flows. He incorporated internal motifs into the objects; some are abstract chaos shaped by gravity, while others are intentional Möbius strips. Thanks to the conical egg shape, the objects magnify, distort, and diffuse the inner image optically. The substantial wall thickness allows for layered grinding, which lends a unique optical play to the final piece.
