Gergely István Szabó

Gergely István Szabó graduated as a furniture industry technician in 2013, after which he and his brother founded the WE ON WOOD carpentry workshop, which is still active today. Their main profile is the production of small solid wood furniture, primarily sold on the international market. He currently works as a designer in the family business, having been admitted to the Design program at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in 2023, where he recently completed his second year.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITED OBJECT

INAS (2025)

When designing INAS the goal was to rethink the curved Thonet component and find a new function for it. The finished piece of furniture is intended to evoke the attributes that have characterized Thonet furniture for nearly 200 years: it is lightweight, compact, easy to manufacture and assemble, and made from materials characteristic of the brand. The result is INAS, a piece of furniture that, beyond its primary function, also gives new meaning to cane as a material and its function.
