Elvira Timár

Elvira Timár primarily works in steel sculpture. Her creative process emphasizes simplicity, essential content, and the material qualities of her medium. She enjoys exploring and expressing the complexities of human character, as well as the beauty and struggles of existence, often through everyday objects. Much of her work focuses on female narratives; in recent years, she has been exploring the high-heeled shoe as a symbol of womanhood.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITED OBJECT

The abandoned (2023)

The third piece in the Red Shoe series – based on the order of completion. The inspiration behind it is both complex and simple. It may evoke associations with the story of Cinderella, or something as mundane as the loss of a shoe. The shoe sculpture stands with its heel up and its toe (its “face”) toward the floor. It is heavily battered, scratched, and only partially retains its red color. It serves as an allegory for the humiliated, lonely, and wounded woman.
