Barbara Pattern X Ceramate Studio

Barbara Pattern is an interdisciplinary design project rooted in the distinctive visual world of creator Barbara Beke. Her products are made in small series, in unique editions, and typically exist on the boundary between fine art and design. They are both artworks and everyday objects at the same time. Her works are characterized by strong philosophical concepts as well as storytelling. Meanwhile, the interactions arising from function and use further enrich the meanings of her pieces.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Barbara Beke, founder of Barbara Pattern, began her professional studies in the field of fine arts and later graduated as a textile designer from MOME (Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design). After completing her studies and working abroad, she earned a degree in applied graphics. Since 2020, she has been working in illustration, and in 2024 she began developing projects in which her unique visual style and concepts also appear on objects.s

ABOUT THE EXHIBITED OBJECTS

FACES / Vases I–VII (2025)

FACES is a conceptual design series exploring how the presence of facial features on everyday objects shapes the viewer’s or user’s perception. This collection of vases is the result of a creative collaboration between Barbara Beke (Barbara Pattern) and Borbála Fű (Ceramate Studio). The colored porcelain forms, designed and crafted by Borbála, are uniquely finished with Barbara’s freehand-painted illustrations. Yet it is the user who gives the object its final character — by selecting which plants to place inside, they bring the piece to life.

FACES / Plates I–VII (2025)

The FACES object series is a conceptual design project exploring how unique faces on everyday objects influence the viewer and user. This plate series is a collaborative creation by Barbara Beke (Barbara Pattern) and Borbála Fű (Ceramate Studio). The tinted porcelain plates, designed and crafted by Borbála, are enhanced with Barbara’s unique freehand painted and drawn patterns. Arranged around the table, these plates adorned with individual faces serve as metaphors for the participants of a shared meal — engaging in interaction and community.
