RAP interior
The experimental studio Rap interior has been operating for the 34th season. It is managed by 2 generations of furniture and interior designers. The company was founded in Mikulov (Czech Republic) in 1990 by Vítězslav Vrbka, who runs the company with his son, Adam Vrbka. The position of Art Director is held by daughter Michaela Vrbková. In addition to complete realizations, Rap also offers products of its own production. All elements are created from designs to implementation. The uniqueness, originality and authenticity of the elements stays in the high-quality material of solid wood, which is completely unrepeatable thanks to its properties. This solid wood is combined with other exact materials as part of the furniture elements. This material combination is supported by many years of experience in the field of furniture production and creation of original interiors.
RAP presented its furniture objects designed by artist and designer Michaela Vrbková at Designblok 2022 (Archean collection) and 2023 (Ab Ovo cycle). With the Archean collection, RAP also participated in the international exhibition 360 Design Budapest. The Ab Ovo bookcase presented at Designblok 2023 was nominated for the EDIDA Elle Decorations 2024 award in the furniture category.
Ecology, recycling, zero waste, respect for natural materials, as well as the application of many years of experience in the implementation of various types of interior projects. This is where they see the future and direction of the Rap family business.
About the object
Ab Ovo bookcase
The Ab Ovo bookcase was created in 2023 as one of the elements of the Ab Ovo furniture collection. The entire collection was presented to the public at the Designblok in the National Gallery of Prague. The bookcase is made from a combination of carbonized solid oak material and rolled raw steel sheet. Burnt wooden objects a.k.a ’’stones” support completely precise thin metal shelves. The porous and not clearly defined massive stones are thus a counterweight to the smooth and cold iron. However, the materials are supported in their raw form and the resulting object appears very compact. The bookcase and other furniture elements of the Ab Ovo collection were designed by Rap’s art director Michaela Vrbková, who combines artistic and sculptural approaches with exact furniture standards. The object thus serve as fully functional furniture and object solitaire as well. The bookcase can make your most valuable artifacts stand out as an altar.
