The centuries-old walls of the Buda Castle District are hosting contemporary design from 9 October, during the 360 Design Budapest exhibition. Running for 11 days, the exhibition welcomes the public interested in design to the late Baroque palace under 1 Táncsis Mihály Street. The experience is not limited to on-site visitors: those interested can also explore the more than 1,000-square-metre exhibition space from the comfort of their own homes via a virtual tour.
This year, the exhibition showcases hundreds of works from contemporary domestic and regional material culture, ranging from unique products of artistic value to small-series furniture and home accessories to series-produced objects. The dialogue between the historic setting and the contemporary design objects creates a unique atmosphere: the walls of the palace, currently out of use, preserve the values of the past while opening space for future innovation. This year’s motto, “Design Aligns – Creating Together, Living Connected”, reflects this concept, placing the connective power of design, spanning eras and industries, at its centre.
Throughout its history, 360 Design Budapest has maintained a strong relationship with its venue, as the buildings were never merely locations but active participants in the exhibition experience. This year, the historical and artistic layers of the palace on Táncsics Mihály Street, and its contemporary additions, perfectly embody the exhibition’s spirit, building on the dialogue between past and present.
Even those unable to visit the exhibition in person can take part in the experience. The 3D platform, available on the exhibition’s official website under Virtual tour, allows visitors to enjoy the exhibition on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or even a mobile phone.
In the virtual space, visitors can navigate by clicking the circles on the floor with their mouse or by using the arrow keys or the WASD keys. With a single click, they can switch between the building’s floors — or explore the exhibition spaces by using the stairs. By clicking on the information boards placed next to the objects, visitors can access dedicated exhibitor pages, where they will find further insights and information about the designers and manufacturers.
The object descriptions and exhibitor page content are available in both Hungarian and English, allowing 360 Design Budapest — one of the region’s leading design events — to offer everyone the opportunity to explore the inspiring world of contemporary design, whether in person or virtually.
