Between the 3rd and the 9th of October, you can view talented Hungarian and regional designers’ innovative creations for a week, including only virtually displayed pieces as part of this year’s concept based on digitalisation. Those interested can meet more than 40 product designers as well as world-famous designers like Piero Lissoni. The programme event will be realised in Bálna Budapest again, in close collaboration with Art Market.
The intertwinement of the digital and physical space and past and future constitute the basis of the exhibition’s concept that focuses on storytelling, education, and digitalisation, where 31 Hungarian designers can exhibit due to the professional jury’s decision. Besides the categories for Hungarian designers and emerging talents, this year, designers could submit 3D design plans as well, which will be displayed in a virtual space using LED projectors. In addition, similarly to previous years and in line with the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency’s (HFDA) strategic goals and partnerships, this year, numerous regional designers’ pieces got a spot at the exhibition again, including creations by Ukrainian, Czech, Polish, Slovak and Lithuanian design brands.
This time, interdisciplinarity and the intertwinement of different artistic branches get an accentuated role. At the Inside Art & Design professional meeting realised in collaboration with Art Market, professional roundtable discussions and exciting keynote presentations will await those interested. The HFDA Academy roundtable discussion also supports educational aspirations and the dialogue between industry experts, discussing differences and overlaps between design and art. Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow, the leading designer duo of the Italian furniture manufacturer, Baxter, will also visit Budapest. You can watch their presentation on the 8th of October on-site. The keynote speaker of the 360 Design Budapest on Thursday is one of the most outstanding architects and designers of our age, Piero Lissoni, who will give us an insight into his concluded and running projects under the title 1:1 Humanist Approach.
The creations exhibited can be viewed during the exclusive guided tours as well with Dr Judit Horváth, Head of Department of the Contemporary Design Collection of the Museum of Applied Arts; Judit Osvárt, Editor-in-Chief of ELLE Decoration; and Iván Vitáris, lead singer of Ivan & the Parazol band. In addition, Gáspár Bonta, the Programme Director and Curator of 360 Design Budapest will hold guided tours, and will be joined by Piero Lissoni before his speech.
It is a great honour for the Hungarian design industry that the exhibition, which is only three years old, attracts more and more people and international professionals each year, and has received numerous awards and recognitions. The event, which also fulfils a sales incentivising function, supports the HFDA’s goal of strengthening Hungary’s role as a regional design centre and emerging Hungarian designers’ fame and recognition.
The free exhibition offers many unique events that cannot be experienced elsewhere starting from today for a whole week in Bálna. It is worth registering on the exhibition’s website since some of the programmes have an attendance limit.
