Major Regional Design Event 360 Design Budapest Seeks Architect

The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA) announces an open architectural design competition for the visual concept of the internationally recognised 360 Design Budapest exhibition. The task of the visual designers and architects applying to the call is to create a space that is valuable in its own right and harmonises the exhibition space, the objects, and the curatorial concept. The innovative competition, launched for the first time this year, aims to define an architectural character that fits the exhibition’s theme, focusing on sustainability and recyclability while emphasising Hungary’s cultural heritage.

360 Design Budapest is the flagship event of the official Budapest Design Week programme, held for the sixth time this year. The exhibition, considered one of the most important events in the regional design scene, presents the best of domestic and regional contemporary object culture, providing visibility opportunities for design brands, applied and fine artists, and creators working in product design. The exhibition, open from 9 to 19 October this year, aims to increase the visibility of Hungarian design, strengthen the competitiveness of brands, and provide opportunities for networking between professionals and the interested public.

The architectural concept competition marks a new milestone for the HFDA as it is the first time that this internationally acclaimed exhibition accepts entries based on architectural ideas. The motto of the 2025 event – Design Aligns – Creating Together, Living Connected – draws attention to the importance of collaborative creation and conscious design. It highlights that collaboration between artists, manufacturers, and users is essential to the creation of each object. Accordingly, the competition entries must offer a spatial interpretation of contemporary design while placing the exhibited objects within a spatial structure that reinforces the curatorial concept. The HFDA, therefore, welcomes applications from architects and visual designers interested in the possibilities arising from the synergies at the intersection of design, industrial arts, and fine arts.

The HFDA will evaluate the submitted entries with the involvement of an expert panel, placing particular emphasis on the design’s visual creativity, support for the curatorial concept, and connection to the motto.

Deadline for applications: July 21, 2025, midnight.
