Brenna Ceramics

The designer mainly creates limited edition, small batch, reproducible and high quality tableware ceramics, but also home decorations using a unique, non-reproducible process. The aim is to continuously develop her own products and to create custom-made objects for the clients.

Her work is characterized by high-fired ceramics, objects made with porcelain casting techniques, as well as wheel-thrown and handbuilt ceramics for private individuals and catering establishments.

The studio is located in Szentendre, where the designer also offers small group ceramics classes for the enthusiastic learners.

Built Ceramic Vases

The exhibition features high-fire creations that appear to tilt from their axis and perform a wave-like dance movement. The formal inspiration stems from failed attempts at wheel-throwing. The artist created stable objects using the coiling technique without merging the coils together, either inside or outside, in the traditional way, thus preserving the visibility of the coils. This results in technical difficulties in supporting the weight of the piece, so the process requires careful attention and patience to prevent collapse. Despite the advancements in 3D ceramic printing today, the artist chose to revert to this classic, ancient method instead. The process of designing and creating the work feels akin to sculpting, where both evolve simultaneously.

A single piece stands on its own, whether as a functional object or home decor. However, placed in a large space in various smaller and larger size variations, they form a mass and composition, becoming visually striking, almost expressing emotions, inviting us to wander contemplatively among them. At this point, I am reminded of the well-known stone figures found along riverbanks, as well as rock formations and surface phenomena shaped by erosion in nature. The keywords are instability, mass, strength, and the expression of emotions and their impact.
