360 Design Budapest Guides You into the World of Regional Design in Mid-October

The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA) is organising the 360 Design Budapest exhibition between the 15th and the 20th of October 2024 in the historic building of the Nyugati Railway Station. The regional exhibition will open its doors for the fifth time to domestic and international design enthusiasts, focusing on the reinterpretation of artistic heritage and local traditions.

360 Design Budapest regional exhibition is an innovative design and applied arts event celebrating Hungary’s cultural and artistic heritage using the tools of contemporary design. The Red Dot Award-winning exhibition will display works by domestic product designers, industrial and fine artists, as well as emerging talents and renowned representatives of the international design scene between 15–20 October 2024.

The 360 Design Budapest exhibition will be held in the iconic setting of the former waiting hall at Nyugati Railway Station. With its rich history, the building is a defining part of Hungarian architectural tradition. At the time of its inauguration, it was the capital’s first railway station and the fifth-largest train station in the world. The location reflects the HFDA’s objective of strengthening Budapest’s role as a regional centre of the creative industries as works by domestic and regional creators will be displayed at the intersection of East and West.

Even during the application period, there was a record number of entries for the 2024 360 Design Budapest. More than 90 product designers and artists applied in three categories, with a record number of emerging talents, over 30, submitting their work for the exhibition. Based on the professional jury’s decision, in 2024, the audience will see objects by more creators than in previous years.

The exhibition’s curatorial concept places the profound cultural importance of Hungarian applied arts and design at the focus, emphasising how these arts have become a defining pillar of national identity over the centuries. 360 Design Budapest presents how the rich traditions of Art Nouveau and Art Deco are revived in the works of contemporary designers while, in the spirit of sustainability, recycling and seeking time-resistant solutions also come into focus.

360 Design Budapest offers a special occasion for visitors to discover the richness of Hungarian and regional design and applied arts through unique experiences. The exhibition and organisers invite visitors on an exciting journey in the world of Central European design through a meeting of the past, present, and future.
