NORNA creates lasting furniture with a story. Our design process starts with research, based on the current interests of our designers. Therefore the end product is more than an object, it’s a story that manifested itself as a piece of furniture. NÁMI tells a story about the material environment of postmodern science fiction cinema. Contemporary sci-fi usually either takes on a pessimistic perspective with often dark, austere, and industrial sets or brings one mind to sublimity and beauty with grandiose spaces. Furniture of this kind demands a similar space, that is why the shoot took place in such a building. The curved shapes that form the lying surface almost literally “lift” the user, evoking a sort of departure and dehumanization. This is the central force of this furniture, and this is the purpose of the frame structure – creating the sensation of floating.
